LEATHERWOOD MOUNTAINS PROPERTY OWNERS’ ASSOCIATION,
INC.
Annual Meeting 2/18/2006 Held in the South Barn
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 PM by President
Russ Simmons.
Russ recognized the former board members and they
received a round of applause. Russ then recognized the
POA members who are members of the Ferguson Volunteer
Fire Department and they too received a round of
applause.
Phil Rash spoke on behalf of the developer Dick
Johnston. After a few “jokes / funnies” he recognized
new property owners and he discussed the growth of
Leatherwood including the opening of new sections.
Diane Ertel, Lelia Ivey and Faye Freeman presented a
well prepared power- point presentation. It included
on-going projects, completed projects, and covered many
of the social events that took place during the past
year.
Some of the topics included: Fire Department, culvert
work, new heaters in the barn, playground equipment,
luau party, birthday dinners, Damascus bike ride,
pumpkin carving party, fun day, Way Out West Party,
Halloween costume party, white elephant Christmas party,
golden oldies dinner and dance, winery trips, canoe trip
on New River, and exercise classes.
Lelia Ivey spoke about the new gates and security. She
discussed the importance of maintaining Leatherwood as a
truly “gated community” in the purest sense and how it
relates to preserving our property values. Also
presented were details on the phases of the project and
how they will be accomplished.
The roads were discussed by Chuck Mann and Russ Simmons.
Basically, the roads are in good shape and they will
always be an on-going project.
Fire safety was addressed by Rex Craig who has been
instrumental in establishing our new sub-station. He
brought us up to date on the progress of the station and
announced that all but two of the new members have
completed their basic fire training classes. We hope to
have the new station rated by the end of the year.
Randy Burke addressed our insurance issues. We increased
our umbrella coverage from one million to five million
dollars.
John Single gave an update on the transition of our
bookkeeping from Mountain Resource to Faw Financial
Services in Wilkesboro. Effective March 1, 2006 the new
firm will be doing the billing and collection of dues.
They are working on detailed procedures for all the
other tasks concerning our finances such as tax work
etc.
The new budget was presented as previously approved by
the board. Bruce Bowers made a motion to reduce dues and
after much discussion it died for lack of interest. The
president stated that it would be taken under advisement
and discussed at the next board meeting.
Because three members were rotating off the board an
election was held for new board members. Rotating off
were David Bridgers (two terms served), John Single (one
term served), and Russ Simmons (two terms served).
Newly elected board members include Mike Everett, Vance
Stine, and David Beckett.
Your new president is Chuck Mann, the vice president is
Randy Burke, the secretary is Diane Ertel, and the
treasurer is David Beckett.
In closing, I would like to thank everyone for your help
and support during my two terms. Your board members
spend many unnoticed hours working on various projects
behind the scenes to help keep Leatherwood the best
place on earth to live. Please give them your support.
Respectfully Submitted,
David A. Bridgers
